A major barrier to integrating tobacco treatment into treatment for other addictive substances has been a lack of understanding of the efficacy of integrating tobacco treatment into substance abuse treatment.  Emerging research has identified that effective tobacco treatment integrated into other substance abuse treatments increases overall treatment success. This handbill provides summary information to support integration to tobacco treatment in substance abuse treatment.

Quitting Tobacco Is a Process – What Stage Are You In?

Providers of Behavioral Health treatment and support services reported they did not have tobacco treatment supports specific to their clients.

Project Integrate employed Social Marketing Strategies and Processes, engaged individuals who use substance abuse and mental health treatment and other supports in focus groups, stakeholder interviews, and in small group feedback sessions to design, refine, and provide a set of materials based on The Stages of Change, an effective tobacco treatment behavior change model.

These materials are designed especially for this behavioral health clients and settings and are not designed or tested with other tobacco users.   Please use these materials with this population.
